Yes, if you don't have a matching content translation setting, pretty much everything will not display.

Gotcha, this is on the original site though, not the MSN.

The fields on non-multi-lang-content mode are used with strings, and otherwise they are numbers into the translate table. If you mix the DBs it will try and "repair", which may corrupt it in actual practice.
