Important: 11 alpha3 update will break some things

Hello everyone,

The next update to v11, 11.alpha3, will be a substantial update. Nearly every file in the core code will have an update. Therefore this upgrade will be particularly large.

More importantly, some breaking changes will be made:

  • In the next day or so from now, all 11.alpha1 and 11.alpha2 sites will no longer be able to communicate with composr.app. This is because the API is about to be changed.
    • This means you will not get notified automatically when 11.alpha3 is released. Please check this site and compo.sr routinely for a news post when it is out.
    • Your site will also not be able to fetch the latest v11 news or update non-bundled addons.
    • Your site will no longer be able to relay errors to composr.app.
    • I am hoping I'll be able to get alpha3 out quickly within no longer than a day or two after this happens. I have to update composr.app first to run tests before I can launch alpha3.
  • You will need to upgrade to 11.alpha3 manually once it is released (but it won't be difficult to do). To do this, simply view the news post about the release and use the upgrade generator to make an upgrade link. Then, run upgrader.php and use that link to upgrade your site.
    • Once you have upgraded to 11.alpha3, all functionality should work again including the ability to update non-bundled addons, check for new versions, upgrade via the Admin Zone, and fetch v11 news articles.

This normally does not happen between Composr updates. Remember "alpha" means the API / code base is subject to change at any time (including breaking changes). Once v11 reaches beta, this will no longer happen (significant breaking changes will not happen again until v12).

Thank you for understanding!
