I want to delete ocPortal

Ok. I'm ready to just delete the outdated/unsupported ocPortal CMS (version 9.0.18) on my website. How do I do this?

Yes… this sounds like the last straw. It really isn't but since I have had so much trouble trying getting my domain name to go to my newly built website instead of the old one, I'm ready to get rid of the old ocPortal website - which will leave my PUBLIC_HTML directory vacant and open to install a composr 10.xx.xx version that I can rebuild (again) the website from scratch again.

I still have a viable composr CMS website (version 10.0.33) operating on a sub directory (PUBLIC_HTML/ADD_SITE) but it doesn't appear to me there is an easy way to just move it to the main directory after it has been vacated of the old ocPortal software.

It sounds like your problem is you have an ocPortal site, and a Composr site, and possibly other stuff, and it's not trivial for you to see what files are what?

Probably best to download the installer and see what folders/files below to ocPortal, and delete those folders/files (after taking a backup)…

https://github.com/chrisgraham/ocPortal/releases/download/9.0.42/ocportal_manualextraction_installer-9.0.42.zip

As for moving a Composr installation down to the webroot… you just need to move the folders/files to where you want then edit the base_url by editing the _config.php file.

The ocPortal site runs fine (its just outdated because it no longer supported).

The Composr site works fine. The old ocPortal site is in the root directory while the composr website is in a created directory PUBLIC_HTML/ ADD_SITE within which all the Composr files are contained.

My idea is to clear all ocportal files out of my root directory. There are NO COMPOSR files in the root directory - they are in the seperate directory under PUBLIC_HTML/ I do not plan to delete these files.

By the way, does ocPortal have a built in delete button or function or do you have to delete the files one by one?

Does this tutorial work for removing ocPortal as well as Composr?

Uninstalling Composr from a Server

Well, most tools will allow you to easily delete selections of folders and files without needing to dive deep into them. If your hosting control panel's file manager won't allow that, try SFTP.

The uninstaller tool (yes, same in ocPortal as Composr) described in the tutorial will remove the database tables, but not the files. Maybe we should improve it to delete files also.

I am fairly fed up with Arvixe and have in my mind to just go to a different webhost where they still have on-site support (looking for a non EIG owned host). I will just install a clean copy of Composr and rebuild on-site of new host. I learned a lot during my last two Composr builds, i think I'm a little bit smarter now. I have all the content from the newly rebuilt site, I just need to put it together again.

My second site (the one that the forum was messed up and now fixed) will transfer easily (according to my probable new webhost). Transferring the site is a service the new host will provide.

They also think they can take my other site out of the subdirectory and transfer it to the new account. Not sure about that… I think I will wait and see how the easy site transfer will go first. In either situation, once I'm settled in with the new host I will just close my old Arvixe account and they can delete whatever I leave behind there.

Cool. Yeah, EIG sucks, sadly.

Copying from subfolder should be very easy for them, they just need to make sure they do edit _config.php.

The new host I am considering moving to is MDD hosting.

Any thoughts, warnings, recommendations or comments about MDD ?

Not from me. I generally only see what is going wrong with webhosts.
