Looking for a forum moderator

Hey all,

Composr is moving in the direction of being more community orientated, rather than just run by ocProducts/myself. This has been a long slow process, but I think we can quickly make a good step forward by putting someone from the community in charge of moderating the forum.

Forum moderation is fairly easy here. We've always had a polite, helpful, respectful, community. Very rare, if ever, have I had to ban people for being abusive or not following rules. The one exception there is spammers, but now it's incredibly easy in Composr to ban spammers and erase their spam content, it's really no big deal.

What would be good though is to have moderator(s) explain how the community works to people. Particularly it would be good to stop people from posting off-topic, or turning their topics into laundry lists of unrelated questions. When people do this it is hard for me to reply, as I have to sit down and read everything new in a topic, along with refreshing myself on what the context of the topic is, and then either write a big reply in one go, or start taking notes and scheduling so I can come back laer - and that means effectively it may take me weeks to reply. I'm sure it's the same for others wanting to reply. I don't have the time either to explain to how to ask questions well, so I end up just dealing with it. A moderator(s) could really help make sure the support process is able to run more smoothly.

Another issue is poor communication (that may be poor English, or just a lack of clarity). Sometimes it's very hard to understand what a post is saying, and it can take 10 minutes of deep concentration to 'decode' it. A moderator(s) could help make sure topics are clear, prior to the most experienced community members replying.

Qualifications are:
  • You must be passionate about Composr.
  • You need to generally be moderating on a daily basis (of course we understand you'll take vacations and so on, so it'll never be 100%).
  • You need to be courtious, and patient.
  • You need to apply rules fairly.
  • You need to be able to write clearly. You don't need to have perfect English, but people need to be able to easily understand you.
So, if you're interested in a moderation position, please send me a private topic, and we can discuss it.

I'm also very happy to welcome enelson to the moderating team!

As of next week (when I'll be living in the US), we'll have moderators active across 3 continents   . Not that really makes any difference, but it sounds cool  .

I think we'll leave it there for moderators, but if anyone has any ideas on other staff roles they'd like to take up, please let me know. I really look forward to having a much larger team of people involved in the future than we've had in the past.

Sounds like the bases are covered but if you need another assistant moderator to fight spam, etc I can check in a few times a week.
