Sponsorship success, what to get sponsored next?

Thanks to Jason Verhagen, moimaim, tshirtnjeans81, and TQ (alphabetical order) we now have 2 more tracker issues sponsored

These will now be developed for v11! (The tracker is a vast curated pool of ideas.)
Now we need to decide what to get sponsored next

In this post I'm going to highlight some of the current most popular tracker issues along with my brief thoughts. I encourage users to then go and vote for (monitor) what they think is important. There's no limit on how much you can monitor. And, you can vote on anything, not just what is listed here.
I've gone through the top tracker issues currently voted for, and added a little editorial control to filter out stuff that I think is a bit too niche, or ocProducts is already looking at implementing. This yields the following items which I've put in what I consider priority priority:
- Setting permissions for usergroups rather than for content (my thoughts – this would be really nice, improving usability for people who get confused trying to set permissions for each content category separately)
- Site-wide Bulletins / Announcements (my thoughts – a pretty common request, makes it a little easier for people to quickly emblazen a message across their site, currently you'd do that with a template edit which is technical, or by just closing the whole site)
- Foolproof content embedding (my thoughts – a nice feature for people who want to build a site primarily consisting of Comcode pages, then in a user-friendly way want to tie in module-based content to those pages)
- Shipping calculations (my thoughts – a lot of people are thinking about this now, Composr's current shipping code is very primitive – it's not necessarily strategically sensible for Composr to try and be a great online store solution, but if people want to fund it, it provides obvious utility to people)
- View online support [newsletter] (my thoughts – I'm not convincd it's a priority as email clients are better than they once were, and HTML email is ubiquitous, but it would be a nice feature)
- Forced profile completion (my thoughts – seems a bit niche, but a good way to gather missing data on membership-centric sites)
Of course, it's not just about votes, it's about funding. The voting shows popular interest and highlights top issues, the sponsorship is what actually makes it happen.
If we have stuff sponsored partially and stuck I am likely to funnel all accumulated Patreon income in so that it will eventually get funded in any case. But it'd be better if we can get stuff funded in 2 months compared to say 1 year

Thank you to those who have supported our Patreon campaign so far (Patreon is by-default confidential, unlike the tracker, so I won't list usernames here for that reason only – you can mention your support yourselves though to inspire others and I'll confirm by liking your post!). It's early days, but it feels great that we have momentum going here. Patreon is a great way to provide ongoing support, where the funding goes into a general discretionary funding pool.
All support is very appreciated by me, and (I assume

I am limited financially, so currently not in a position to fund anything which is why I have spent a lot of time finding and reporting issues. Thanks to those who have sponsored features, I certainly appreciate it.

Since your ticket, we've put out v10.1 (big eCommerce release), so the situation with that has changed a lot.
Here are the 3 tracker issues that are currently non-sponsored:
- https://compo.sr/tracker/view.php?id=12
- https://compo.sr/tracker/view.php?id=478
(the shipping options one is a different issue, as we ended up changing our approach with v10.1 and now integrate Shippo for shipping calculations as well as our own very basic system – the new tracker issue is the same in spirit to the previous though)
Here are some more I think users would be interested in but would need sponsorship:
- https://compo.sr/tracker/view.php?id=2635 (might be a good one for accessibility, I'm sure Google's new invisible ReCaptcha is better than our CAPTCHA)
- https://compo.sr/tracker/view.php?id=2737
Probably the best approach (given I doubt going through PayPal, the tracker, the forum, and the support credit system is together particularly accessible) is to decide how much you want to sponsor in dollar-terms and PayPal to [email protected], with a note about what issue(s) interest you most. I'll then make sure the credits are properly allocated according to your wishes.
I'm away for August, and likely very busy in September, and then need to get v11 finished. I'm imagining getting to doing new feature sponsorship actually in the first quarter of 2018 now, so please be aware it's going to take me a while to get things through.
Thank you!
Chris
