Renaming Points?

So I have a community planned for a roleplaying game, but 'points' is such a non-immersive term. If I could rename it to something like Gold or Money or something that would be great.

While I'm here, is it possible to adjust what points are rewarded for and/or what value is awarded for a given action?

EDIT: Ok, so I dug a little deeper and found where point rewards for the actions pre-assigned can be changed... but can those actions for which points are granted be changed?

Hi,

Any language can easily be altered via changing language strings. Admin Zone > Style > Translate/re-phrase Composr.

As for creating new actions to assign points, you'd need to alter the PHP code, i.e. programming.
There is quite a rich set of defaults though.

Thank you Chris, somehow the re-phrase tool completely slipped my notice.

I've noticed that 'gift points' and 'points' are separate, but tooling around in the Points Module I don't see any option to directly change 'gift points'?

For my purposes I want all points to be gift points [or to disable gift points and simply allow all members to transact with real points with eachother]

EDIT: OK, I did a search through the Admin Zone and found where I can choose to disable Gift Points. I suppose that may be my best course of action here? If it is, am I able to enable direct transactions of points between members, or will such transactions have to go through the Points Store?

Hi,

Currently not a feature. It's on the tracker:
0000043: Option to abolish gift points - Composr CMS feature tracker

This is a long-standing thing, our current system is somewhat 'communist'   .

But nobody has had the time/concern enough to implement the simplification yet.

Huh, six hours [by people intimately familiar with Composr] to enable direct Transaction of Points between members?

Or is that specific tracker issue so challenging because it eliminates Gift Points as well? [Admins who don't want gift points can turn them off in the Admin Zone for Member Groups though…]

If a more simple approach for similar results could be feasibly done within 1 hour of programming work I would be happy to sponsor it myself.

If not… then oh well lol.

1 hour isn't enough for anything at a decent standard honestly. Maybe in an hour if I was well caffeinated I could hack up something that works by going through the code like a ninja, commenting and rewriting every reference to point transactions I find.

However anything that goes into Composr must be well implemented, be debugged, be internationalised, be documented, be configurable, etc. It's a lot of work to write even decent maintainable code. The truth is that typically things take 2 or 3 times longer than the tracker times, and we make a loss when we do sponsored work via the tracker.

Is there a way to subscribe to a tracker to be notified if someone pledges towards it? I'd be happy to participate but my presently available funds aren't a very big slice out of 6 hours and more like one bite out of 18.

Hi,

I believe monitoring the issue will do that, as well as counting as a 'vote'.

Done.

While I'm here… is there a way to directly give a user Gift Points? I'm not finding one anywhere.

I think an admin may edit their profile to change their number.

That doesn't work. Or at least, if it's anywhere in their profile it's neither under Edit nor under Points

In points there's an option that says 'give gift points' but that's just gift points from the system into the user's regular points.

Hi,

I just checked, it's on the Profile edit tab (Edit\Profile).

I know that's a bit weird but it's because the data is tracked via Custom Profile Fields. This originates from us supporting third-party forums, we need to store our own data within special CPFs.
