I took a look, popularity is not equal to views. It's equal to compound rating.

So for example if user A rates 2 stars and B rates 5 stars...

"rating" sorting takes the average... aka. 3.5 in this case.
"popularity" (or compound rating) takes the total... aka. 7 in this case.
