Validation isn't designed as anything more than binary on/off, and changing that would be an enormous amount of work (we're talking weeks). It would be better to have some custom display logic.

Truth is, just not everything should be made possible out of the box. Sometimes a programmer is needed on individual sites, especially when they are dealing with highly complex things like multi-language content.
