If you somehow set a future date then the newsletter would be empty, as the future content doesn't exist yet.

Let's say you set it to Jan 1st 2016. It would include content between Jan 1st 1026 and now.

I'm tweaking the label for the cut-off field to say:
"Content between this date and now will be included in your automatic issue."
