I'm not so sure on this feature. I think in this case it would be much more useful if instead of guide emails it were on-site overlays assisting the user.

It's for marketing purposes, to keep reminding a user about the website (e.g. what to do next), and to also potentially gather survey data about real-world usage patterns.
