#2124 - Hosting partnership

This is a spacer post for a website comment topic. The content this topic relates to: #2124 - Hosting partnership
Hosting partnerships are highly problematic. It's a race-to-the-bottom industry, so we'd need to find an expensive one. An expensive one is going to have far fewer customers, and the customers it has are unlikely to be the kind of people we really need to bring into the community, as the more technical ones would likely be going with something self-supported like a dedicated server or Amazon EC2 - and also less likely to be shopping around for CMSs on their web host's site.

It is better we target our marketing where the kind of community members we want are, and target our commercial services to where people who can afford high-end professional services are (e.g. contract work).
This will probably change into "hosting sponsorship" - we'll find someone to sponsor our Composr CMS hosting, and they'll be listed as a sponsor. We won't do any explicit recommendations.
I've (almost) negotiated a 50% discount with our long-term hosting company instead, which will do well (just on the basis of us having an old server now, but we're happy with it). As stated in my prior post we can't do any endorsements.
