I have seen IPB now refers to Emoticons as "Custom emoji".
The pedantic part of me doesn't like that, emoticons and emoji are not the same thing - emotions are custom images placed by a particular web site, emoji are part of fonts/unicode.
However, users may no longer recognise the term "emoticon" soon.
