#1852 - Multiple custom values in combo_multi field

This is a spacer post for a website comment topic. The content this topic relates to: #1852 - Multiple custom values in combo_multi field
Having a more detailed look at these list options

Item one

Existing:
1. A value chosen from a list
2. A value chosen from a set of radio buttons
3. Multiple values chosen from a list
4. Multiple checkboxes from a small set
5. A value chosen from a list OR a typed custom value
6. Multiple check boxes and an option for an “Other value”

Proposed:
7. Multiple check boxes and an option for “MULTIPLE Other values”

On both Multiple Checkbox types 4. and 6. I note on the end client displayed web page that the page displays ALL the values with a cross or a tick against what options were selected.

It would be useful to hide the values NOT selected. That is ONLY display the values selected. I note that if there is no value in "Other Values" it does not display the field in the end user view which is correct so if you have not selected a value in the check boxes in the edit view why does it display all of them in the compiled page view.

Option 3 works relatively well in this regard as it only displays the actual selected values.

For example we have a situation that there are 54 values to choose from and each time there might be three to six chosen. It makes no sense to display all 54 values on the end user displayed page.

If it needs more credits to make it so, please charge them back. If this is something that is out of left field and not thought through please don't be bashful to say so.

Item two
As another option on top of the above, what we would like to be able to do is enter either one or two custom values and then next time, after we have saved, these two values would appear in the list for re use.

ie, in option 3 the ability to add a couple of custom values and next time these custom values would be displayed in the drop down values list and be able to be selected. Currently you use these values once only.

Item three
The same as option (3.) but for item (6.)/(7.) (difference between (3.) and (6.)/(7.) is that (3.) is in a drop down list and (6.)/(7.) are the check boxes option. There would be additional check boxes to select from next time that included those values.

Lastly it would be really helpful to see these sorts of options shown clearly in the documentation with examples of what they look like in the edit screens and what the results look like in the display pages.

Can I assume these values once selected are all searchable? I hope this better explains the requirements.
On further testing of option 6. Multiple check boxes and an option for an “Other value”.

If you add this field in the downloads category with a list such as:
1.SRL (Litigants in Person/Self Represented Litigants)|2.Best interest of Children|3.Shared Care|4.Reverse Lives with Parent|5.Shared Parental Responsibility|6.Sole Parental Responsibility|7.Contraventions|8.Change of Circumstances| 9.Alienation (Alignment) |10.Allegations of Sexual Abuse (Children) |11.Relocation (within Australia, Distance, International)|12.Recovery|13.Family Violence (Partner)|14.Child Abuse |15.Drug & Substance and or Alcohol abuse|16.Childrens Medical issues|17.Schooling and fees|18.Extracurricular activities|19.Expert Witnesses |20.Family Reports

Then when you go to create a new download the OTHER check box is firstly showing as CHECKED (with a tick) and secondly is populated with ALL of the values above.

The correct behaviour should be
NO check (tick) and
NO data elements in the field.
Great suggestions, will consider a new "field options" system to accommodate this.
Replaced with #1857.

I will look into the specific bug here in #1858.
