Removing parts of the URL?

Is there an easy way to strip say "catalogues" and "galleries" from the actual address in v10? Shorter URL's are always nicer and not sure if these are required? I know v11 has some extended rewrite functionality that could likely do this.

Can you give me a couple examples of URLs you'd want stripped (minus the domain name if you want to keep your site private)?

Well I am sharing Gallery video links to Facebook so I'd like to shorten the URL in some way. I am using Youtube ID's in the URL, so ideally I'd like to recreate something like Youtube does (ie, domain/music/id) but at the very least domain/music/video/ID

I am not using the root gallery though it exists and having that in the URL along with video/ seems overkill. I tried some .htaccess but I think that also needs to be reflected deeper in the system as it did nothing.

Example link: Likho > The Beerholder – Mediafeeder

Yeah, that would be correct. While you can define new rules in the .htaccess file, even if they work if typed in manually in your browser or used as links, Composr will still use its own URL schemes depending on what you selected in configuration. It would not be an easy change as it's frequently used in core functions.

So for example if you managed to get .htaccess to direct domain/music/video/ID correctly, Composr is still going to change it after the fact to conform with its own scheme (or during standard navigation through the site).

Fair enough, will cope. Wonder if I could do it with redirects in Admin CP with 1 rule rather than 1 for each? Is that possible?

Probably not in v10. The v10 redirection system is very basic and only supports zone:page redirects
