Summary | 5980: Products catalogue forcing Shipping details
Description | If someone is using the Products catalogue for non-physical goods (ie, digital downloads) this information isn't necessary. I know you can use Downloads as a way to sell Digital items, but is there a reason for these fields to be required? Setting height, weight, etc to 0 results in a bizarre grand total where it adds £10 for Shipping (based on what I do not know).
Steps To Reproduce | Okay, this is Shipping cost base for Shippo (which assumes end users will be using Shippo?). Perhaps there should be a prompt to edit the config before adding Products. Or maybe it could be turned off like "Detailed tax system".
Additional Information | (Patrick): Feature context: Add a new product type for selling digital goods which does not prompt for shipping information *and* allows the ability to upload said product. Ideally we would use Downloads for that because downloads already offers a way to sell by points; we just tie in purchase with money as well. Clarify in tutorials the products catalogue is meant for physical goods, not digital ones. Maybe we should fix the UI so digital goods from the downloads system can also appear beside products.

Changing to a feature request. TMK the products catalogue is not intended for use selling digital products. It is only intended for physical products. Digital products can be sold either through the downloads system (though only via points at this time; someone could sponsor this feature and I'll hook it into the eCommerce system to allow currency payment as well) or through a "custom product" on the eCommerce inventory management screen. These aren't ideal; the interface is not intuitive for selling digital goods. So if someone wants to sponsor me to improve the UI, please let me know. I have higher priorities for v11 ATM though so this is not something I'm going to do right away. |
