Summary | 3786: tutorial incomprehensible or outdated on disabling rank ladder
Description | Concerning the tutorial https://compo.sr/docs/tut-subcom.htm The Setup Wizard has an option to remove the default rank ladder and have a simple 'Members' usergroup instead. I now did the wizard twice, tweaking every option there is towards not having a rank ladder, but in the end always got one (or at least the usergroups for it). The wording in the tutorial actually makes me expect an explicit option like disable rank ladder which I couldn't find. I hope for a clarifying sentence to make people understand how to achieve a configuration with 'Members' usergroup without ladder. If no longer possible, please say so. The next question coming to the reader's mind might be how to disable it manually. What if I delete all except Newbie group? Technically, that's possible. Will high ranked users still be dropping out of that group then? If not, that might be a solution worth mentioning here. Or is there a better one?
Steps To Reproduce | Install 10.2.4 with automatic extractor. Run wizard, choose minimal settings and disable everything possibly connected to the rank ladder. Turns out that there is no group Members, but the rank ladder groups (Newbie, Local Hero, ...) are created.

Do you have the cns_forum addon installed? The rank ladder option is coded up under that addon (a hook within the setup wizard belonging to that addon). It shouldn't be actually, so that's an issue. "Will high ranked users still be dropping out of that group then" - I'm not sure what you mean by this. But yes you'd delete any that flow from Newbie and rename Newbie. |

"Will high ranked users still be dropping out of that group then" - I think you mean to ask what happens to members in group X when group X is deleted. When you delete you have to choose a group where they'll be moved to. This only applies to primary (not secondarily) usergroup memberships.
