Summary | 2136: Auto-extend copyright year setting
Description | I'm stubborn about the idea that we should not be automatically raising the copyright year. The copyright year represents the year at which there was a last a change on the site. If someone makes a site, and doesn't change anything for 5 years, it would be a misrepresentation for the copyright year to keep going up. It's purely a theoretical issue, nobody is going to get sued, but I think it's important as a matter of principal. However, we obviously also want to minimise maintenance for people. A reasonable compromise would be a new mode whereby the copyright symbol will go up, so long as a member of staff has done some logged action on the site. Therefore in our log_it function, we would detect such an event, and detect if copyright is out-dated, and bump the copyright forward. For this to happen the copyright setting would need marking up somehow to indicate for us to do it. We'd have this as the default.

Thanks for the sponsorship :). I was able to get this one into v10 quickly. The syntax will be like... Copyright © $CURRENT_YEAR=2015 Composr will trim the "$CURRENT_YEAR=" bit out when displaying, but when managing content it will spot it and refresh the year that follows back into the option setting if needed. |
