Summary | 165: Installation profiles and general overhaul
Description | Usability of wizard =================== Block selection: * remove some blocks people really don't want * make sure people are informed they can change block choice later by editing pages * categorise by addon as we now do in the add block tool Theme Wizard ------------ Remove themegen from the setup wizard and make it a donext action at the end (because Theme Wizard is being extended with extra options) New options =========== Option to raise stat data limit; explain how some web hosts will lock out DB's if a small number of MB is exceeded Enter Google Analytics ID Installation profiles ===================== Installation profiles work by selecting a profile which sets default selections for subsequent choices of the Setup Wizard. General: -------- Make sure the links on the horizontal community menu are good for all profiles Options for profiles -------------------- Select: Galleries/Comcode page/forum as your front page? [If forum is chosen this will also use the site: panels in the forum zone] Checkbox: Blog: disable news summary truncating in main_news block Checkbox: Remove standardbox from main_news block and replace with a more spaced-out style (Line-height, margins, spacing between posts Checkbox: Strip userbox from main_news block and put a caption in the meta space Checkbox: For the blog post to show is descended from the front page via the new breadcrumb system Checkbox: Show the RSS links on the news block. Checkbox: Show the social bookmarking stuff by default Checkbox: There should be an option to turn on tags for the full-screen view of entry and another option to turn them on for summaries. Check these things: ------------------- That number of comments shows underneath news summaries That in the blog profile, the "add news" link on the front page reads "add blog entry" If there are no side menus, all the blocks that are going to be chosen default to being on the right. For the blog profile, whatever menu type is chosen is minimalistic Guests can enter their name on the comment form. Make the view link from the collaboration zone open in a new window. Check all the links in the collaboration zone installation For blogs, make sure the [tt]main_news[/tt] block doesn't have a cut-off date Change these things: -------------------- If news summary truncation is disabled, hide the news summary option under an expander For blog posts, the category & 2nd categories should be under 'advanced' (hidden) Validation checkbox should always be at the end of a form Move "blog article" above "advanced" For the blog profile, the main_news block should be added with blogs by default The blogs profile should have no menus Make a new side_block that lists every month+year since the first news entry in a given category was posted. Category paramatarter, overridden by the filter url paramater New breadcrumb management screen in the adminzone: each content type [or individual comcode page or indivual catalog] gets a definition line of what breadcrumbs it should use, these are pre-populated when you install. Each definition line can reference the current category's category chain, OR the explicit category chain of a named content type/category OR a page-link. The breadcrumb call lines will need to start saying the implicit content-type/category that is active but otherwise the breadcrumb code will generate it's own breadcrumbs from the lookup table. Addon selection --------------- Addons may be chosen in the Setup Wizard. Default selections vary based on Installation Profile. Everyone gets: * Import * Linux helper script * Commandr * Phpinfo * Printer_friendly * Recommend * Stats * Themewizard * Windows helper script Blog: * News * News_shared * Comcode pages Portfolios / galleries: * Galleries Communities: * Forums * Points * Users online * cns_* [avatars, cartoon_, forum, thematic] * stats_block Shopping carts (hide): * Ecommerce * Catalogues * SSL Minimalist / Brochure/organization/small business: * Comcode pages * News * Newsletters * Syndication_block Language changes: ================= "After this wizard your site will still look generic in the same way that a word processed document made with a built-in template would. " - nuke after new theme wizard is built "What to expect from Composr: (2) should put 'Experienced computer users' at the beginning for consistency. Bold all personas "A description of your site made available to tools that read your site (search engines for instance). This should be written as a complete sentence or paragraph, and make sense to humans." → - "This appears beside your site name in search engine results" "In this step you will specify the status of various features. Composr is designed to be flexible enough to suit a wide audience, but powerful enough and of high enough quality to be able to meet everyone's advanced needs - it's best to only choose stuff here that you know you want. " - "Which default content and features would you like to enable?" "Whether the Welcome and Site zones should be identical. Identity eases navigation and reduces maintenance, but removes the potential separation advantages. " - "This creates a redirect from [tt]:start[/tt] to [tt]site:start[/tt], creating the perception that 'Welcome' and 'Site' zones are identical. This simplifies navigation and maintenance, but removes the potential separation advantages. Easily un-done later by removing the redirect." "You may fully edit these later by editing the :rules page. " - (wrap :rules in <tt>)
