Summary | 1367: Adaptive block mode
Description | Remove the concept of block management by default. Make the default pages hook-constructed, throwing in blocks for all installed addons, in appropriate spots. These hooks would only show a block if there was content. E.g. if you had no FAQ entries, nothing for the FAQs catalogue would show. There would be a sense of "alternates". E.g. you could choose to show recent FAQ entries, top FAQ entries, or no FAQ entries, on the front page. There would be a configurable sense of order. All this would be managed via a reordering/settings page, instead of Composr's current "edit this page" (Comcode). There would be a button to copy to Comcode, so you could fully manage as required.

Shooting this down, as the new auto-managed menus serve to reveal all content, the Setup Wizard does provide a customised block choice, and the default start pages have been extended. On balance, adding extra layers of configurability would probably hurt performance and usability (even if just in terms of explaining to users that different sites are managed differently). |
