We apologize for the instability of composr.app and appreciate your patience. We are working on the statistics addon and trying to find an optimal way to store and render data. Unfortunately, we have yet to find a solution that can handle the traffic (and therefore, tens of millions of statistical records) of composr.app. We're working hard on one.
Naive people may think that there's only one tax rate for a state. But it varies not only based on what is being sold, but also the city and county the buyer is in (except for a few simplified states like California).
Another nice Avalara feature is it emails you when you need to update your tax tables, as these things can change as tax periods flip over. Many cities may levy tax changes this way.
Not workable, based on what Avalara themselves advise:
"Submit the form to receive sales tax rate tables by ZIP code for:
...
ZIP codes are a tool for the postal service, not tax authorities. There are often multiple sales tax rates in each ZIP code, county, and city.
In any given year, the USPS makes numerous boundary changes to ZIP code areas."
