| Description | Often, people will use ratings or like/dislike just to indicate to someone they read their post but have nothing more to add.
This is not ideal because ratings and like / dislike is for giving feedback on the quality of content (and also affects points and karma). So, add some sort of additional feedback icon for posts called an acknowledge button. This lets the poster know someone acknowledged / read the post, but it does not affect ratings / points / karma in any way. |

I'd caution against adding extra complexity that most likely the vast majority of people won't care to understand or use, that will detract from the project being perceived as simple and streamlined.
I'd also caution against making a publishing tool that goes against the grain of what the established norms are on websites.
If we were to do something, implementing "reactions" is much more in line with the way things have gone. It's simple, expressive, and well understood.
