| Description | The points system currently has "Points Balance", "Gift Points", and "Life-Time Points".
Add a new one called "Activity Points". This operates similar to life-time points in that they cannot be spent on anything. However unlike life-time points, this value more clearly represents a member's total amount of content contributions in a community and is less likely to be influenced by virtual currency related actions on the points system. Activity points should probably consider all points ever earned EXCEPT points earned through the following ways: * Escrows (these are transactional / virtual currency) * Credits (unless the credit was from a content submission or a daily visit) * eCommerce refunds * Gambling * Essentially anything that does not pertain to some level of public site activity / contributions We give a clear indication that members should be using escrows if they are sending points for goods. Therefore, we will assume members sending points to each other is considered "activity" (e.g. feedback / a thank-you) and thus will count towards activity points. |
| Steps to reproduce | |
| Additional information | Add a config option asking how staff want usergroup rankings to be considered: Life-time points or activity points. Activity points is the new default, but all v10->v11 site upgrades will default to life-time points instead as this is what is currently used.
Also implement this as a config option for point-weighting on polls, and in the karma system. Document this new concept. |

A justification for a system like this is that the points system can be abused easily to rank up in groups when using life-time points... if two members keep sending each other points back and forth, they can rank up. Sure, a staff member can reverse the transactions (and I'll have to double check if that causes auto rank down or not), but it's still unnecessary work for staff.
Also, life-time points is often considered as a measure for user activity (groups / ranks, member info, voting power). But that's false because not all life-time points earned are from actual activity / contributions (e.g. exchanging points between members, some sites may award points for donations [though one can argue that is a form of contribution... really a preference of the admin; some admins may see that as too capitalist / classist as those who can afford to donate have an unfair way to get more points], birthday points, daily points [not points for visiting; I'd consider that a form of activity]).
