| Description | Have the upgrade generate create both .tar and .tar.gz variants. If a client supports native gunzipping, download the .tar.gz variant to save on bandwidth.
This should reduce the file size by about 80% and avoid HTTP timeouts on some servers. |

Ideally we'd also support resumable downloads in the HTTP downloader, but that'd be a lot of work. |
