| Description | I would like to see members have a ranking system that separates them from groups. Most forum software does it this way and the reason I think it is good to do this is ranks give a way to recognize users for contribution in the form of a title. You can have multiple rank titles without having to go through the unnecessary efforts of designing another set of permissions for a user because his rank is tied to a group. Groups should be used for permissions and Classification. Ranks should be used for title and recognition. People like recognition but as a website administrator I don't want to set up 40 groups just because I want to recognize a user for something. |

| Additional information | I do not know the system well enough yet to know how to code this into it so I cannot estimate development time. I would think for Chris this kinda thing could be done in 2 hours. For me it's likely be a week or 2 lol.
Ranks should have images and could be set based upon post count or length of time of membership or points count or manually set. It would also be nice if Ranks could be set to auto-promote to next rank and when the person reaches a rank also obtain either a group membership or other privileges. For instance to use Military style Ranking as a sample One might have 4 main groups with a basic set of permissions and or privileges. Recruit - Enlisted - Officer - General. Now the ranks could be (Private - Corporal - Sergeant under enlisted all with same basic permissions but perhaps progressively higher points bonuses?) then ( Lieutenant - Captain - Major under officers group again with perhaps other privileges based on rank) then (Brigadier - Major - General under the Generals group) but as you can see One would only have to set 3 permissions definitions for forums etc instead of 9 but still be able to offer more frequent forms of recognition to members. Anyway I would hope it would be considered in the future and if the costs is reasonable I might sponsor it it in time. Or at worst try to tackle it on my own eventually. Thanks |

You can already add usergroups that don't have permissions by ticking (checking) "Private club" is on the form. Permissions for that group will not exist and the UI won't invite you to fill them in.
We try and minimise the number of concepts and architectural complexity in Composr, so creating a separate ranks system wouldn't be desirable for me personally.
