| Description | It's no secret that we basically have no interest in further developing the stats addon as a competitor for modern analytics systems. The task is too vast, and there is very little reason for this to be baked into Composr anyway.
However, some people do not like to rely on Google. Therefore I suggest we do the following... 1) Add PIWIK integration alongside our Google Analytics integration, and document it. 2) Add shortcut icons from the stats menu direct to Google Analytics / PIWIK, if configured. 3) Strip out all the run-of-the-mill analytics, like hit counting, browser stats, geo stats, etc. Once this is done, any efforts we make on the stats can be focused around making what is still there (e.g. user-online stats, demographics, popular downloads) really good. Another advantage is customers of agencies will not be confused by having two set of stats, where one set is really detailed is good, and one looks like it is from a 10 year old system (which is essentially true). Our basic stats architecture would remain, as we have developed useful systems from the stats addon that are now used in many places within Composr (e.g. finding a user's browser and OS, doing geolocation of IPs, and so on). |
