Summary | 2016: Emoji | ||||
Description | Allow emoticons to be mapped to unicode emoji characters as well as images. Allow both, so we can decide which to use based on if the image exists or based on output context. By default have all emoji short codes mapped to the correct emoji characters. Consider having it by default so that our emoticons aren't there at all, and it's all mapped to emoji. For Tapatalk addon, map the proprietary syntax to proper unicode or entity references on input and output, rather than showing native Tapatalk emoji on web, | ||||

I have seen IPB now refers to Emoticons as "Custom emoji". The pedantic part of me doesn't like that, emoticons and emoji are not the same thing - emotions are custom images placed by a particular web site, emoji are part of fonts/unicode. However, users may no longer recognise the term "emoticon" soon. |
