Mass Moderation

Mass moderation is a technique of handling multiple posts for a certain task or set of tasks. Moderation itself refers to the managing of topics, posts and polls, and managing the community in general.

Topics can be mass moderated from the forum-view, by using the 'mark topic' feature in conjunction with the 'topic actions' drop-down list.
You can try it yourself by going to the Forums page, select a random forum and add a sample topic and posts to test, now you should find the newly created topics list in the Forum view page. In the same page, you should see a checkbox to the top right of every topic which will let you mark the topics and perform a mass moderation as shown in the image.

Posts can be mass moderated from inside the topic where the posts reside. Make some new posts in the previous example, and in the Topic view page you should see there is a checkbox for each post to the top right to select and there is a dropdown list towards the bottom with a list of actions which can be performed against the selected posts as shown in the image below

Adding a Multi-Moderation

To add a multi-moderation, go to the 'Add multi-moderation' screen (Go to the Structure section of the Admin Zone, then the Forums icon, then the Multi-moderations icon). Fill out all the fields on the form as required. Try to make the post sound as professional as possible (if the multi-moderation is for making a formal response). Submit the form, and the multi-moderation will be available for use in all the specified forums (from the drop down list of topic actions that you see when viewing a topic).
(Image-03.png)

To use a multi-moderation, you need to browse to an appropriate topic. Select an appropriate multi-moderation from the 'Topic actions' drop-down list, and click the 'Proceed' button to apply the multi-moderation to the topic.
You may also use multi-moderations from the forum view screen, by selecting topics you want to multi-moderate and using a multi-moderation from the 'Topic actions' drop-down list.
The multi-moderation's are usually placed within the muli-moderations section in the drop down

To access this feature navigate to Home->Social and this will take you to Forum Home page which lists all the available forums. From the list select a forum which is to be moderated or create a new forum by selecting 'addforum' option .

If no topics and posts has been yet made to the selected forum, go ahead and try to add some sample topics and posts to test,
a) To add topic, select 'addtopic' button and provide some details like title, description etc for the topic and select Add topic button. If you want you can have a preview of the new topic before adding the topic by selecting preview button.

b) To make posts/reply to the a topic, click on preview for topic preview then add some content in Quick Reply box and select 'Make Post' button.

Moderating Topics

Topics may be individually moderated from inside the topic, or mass moderated from the forum-view, by using the 'mark topic' feature in conjunction with the 'topic actions' drop-down list.

Topics available moderation actions are:
Mark as Read
Mark as Unread
Move Topics
Delete Topics
Pin Topics
UnPin Topics
Sink Topic
UnSink Topic
Cascade Topic
Un-cascade Topic
Open Topic
Close Topic
Validate Topic

To perform mass moderation, select all the topics to be moderated by marking the checkboxes along each topics listed in Forum View Page and select the dropdownlist 'Topics/Poll actions' located towards bottom of the page and choose an action from the list as shown in the image.

Moderating Posts

Posts can be moderated individually or mass moderated from inside the topic where the posts reside.

Posts available moderation actions are
Merge Posts into
Split Posts from
Delete Posts
validate posts
Quote posts

To test this make some posts inside a forum topic, and in the Topic view page you should see there is a checkbox for each post to the top right to select and there is a dropdown list towards the bottom titled 'control functions: Marked Post Actions' with a list of actions which can be performed against the selected posts as shown in the image below
(Image-02.png)

Note : 'Merge Posts' into action can be performed only with mass moderation.
The 'Merge Posts' into feature moves posts out of the current topic and into an existing one.
When moving to a new topic, the title of the topic is as of the first moved post. If the first moved post has no title the topic will be given an arbitrary title which you can edit later.

The 'Split Posts from' feature moves out the current topic and into a new one.

Deleted posts will be kept behind in the 'post history'. Post history can be accessed in three ways:
Clicking the 'history' button next to a post (for edited posts only)
Clicking the 'post history' link in a member profile
Selecting the 'post edit/moderation history' from topic action
The 'post history' feature allows you to view text text of all revisions a post has gone through, and restore deleted posts. It is also possible to delete post history. The 'post history' feature was designed so you can track moderations, including moderations done by actual posters (in case they are trying to cover something up).

Multi Moderation

Multi-moderation is a very useful feature for moderating busy forums. Multi-moderations allow you to define 'canned responses' which can be stamped on a topic at the touch of a button: these responses can include text as well as topic modification actions.

For example, a multi-moderation could be set to allow a developer to automatically mark a bug-report as fixed with a 'Thank you, confirmed' message, that closes the topic

Adding a Multi-Moderation

To add a multi-moderation, navigate to Admin Zone, Structure->Forums->Add Multi Moderation
(Image-04.png)
