Catalogue help

I'm working on a project that hopefully can make use of the catalogues module, but I'm wondering if it will work. I will need to pull a lot of info from a specific catalogue onto a specific Comcode page, and eventually use loops to output all information within this catalogue onto the page.

I'm looking at the symbols available (in Composr docs) for pulling info from the catalogues, and from what I can make out of it, it seems to me like the only info I can pull is entries (sorry if this isn't the case, but the docs seem a bit vague even when it comes to parameter usage with these symbols)

I need to be able to pull all categories (i.e. 'titles') as well as subcategories and not just the entries within. Is this at all possible?
